Wanted!

{nl}            Gulf Coast racers will return to action on Friday Night, May 7th. The extra week  for preparation will allow competitors  in a least 3 divisions,  to try to figure out a way to bring winning streaks to an end.       In the Pro Late Model Divison, Mobile’s D.J. Vanderley has won the first 2 events quite handily.  Vanderley’s  season has gotten off to a red hot start, also winning a feature event  at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday, April 17th.  […]

Vanderley Repeats! Wins PLM Feature

There’s nothing like a trip to Victory Lane to put disappointment in your rearview mirror. Just ask D.J. Vanderley. The 18 year old erased the pain of a settling for his second college choice with a dominant win in the Pro Late Model Division on Friday at Five Flags Speedway. VanderLey is now two-for-two with wins in each race this season.     “This definitely helps,” said Vanderley, who chose to attend Auburn when scholarship money wasn’t enough to enroll at Georgia Tech. “Georgia Tech was my dream school, but it didn’t work out. But Auburn is going to be […]

Modifieds Return THIS FRIDAY!

The Modified brigade is a traveling group of individuals. They love to show their stuff at 5 Flags (and other tracks) with their open wheeled loud speed machines.           Ryan Redmon drives 140 miles from Marianna to drive the half mile oval here. Ryan is the Orkin man working in south Georgia.           Phillip Merryman comes about the same distance, from Pineapple Al.  He is also focused on being a college baseball coach. He is a grad of West Alabama State University.            […]

Wild Finish for Blizzard Series

{nl}           Vickie Pollard, the mother of Super Late Model driver Bubba Pollard, was pacing behind the grandstands at Five Flags Speedway. There were four laps left with a restart looming.“I always sit by myself during a race,” she said. “I tend to grab people I don’t know.”     Her son was second behind 14-year-old Chase Elliott. On the restart, Elliott drifted high and Pollard ducked low to take the lead. Vickie Pollard grabbed the elbow of a bystander as she jumped up and down.      […]

5 Flags Speedway voted #1!

{nl} www.pnj.com     Local enthusiasts like to puff their chests that there’s no better spot to see a short-track race than Five Flags Speedway.      Turns out, the nation agrees.      While the Super Late Models christen the start of this year’s five-race Blizzard Series tonight with the Pepsi Max 100, the 57-year-old track has plenty of reasons to celebrate.      Through online voting at Speed51.com, not only was Five Flags overwhelmingly voted the best venue short-track fans like to catch a race, but track General Manager Tim Bryant was named promoter of the year. […]
