Nite of Champions #1

 {nl}Because of the rained out event on August 27th, 5 Flags Speedway’s Annual “Night of Champions” has been spread over 2 race nights. Night # 1, scheduled for Friday Night, October 8th, will feature the Pro Late Model Championship event, “The Allen Turner Tune Up 100”, along with a 30 Lap, $750 to win Open Wheel Modified Championship event. The Sportsman and Bomber Divisions will also see action on this night. The Sportsman and Bomber Championship races will be on Night #2, scheduled for October 15th, along with the return of the TBARA Winged Sprint Cars.  […]

Friday Night. September 24th will be a very special evening at 5 Flags Speedway. 2 Championships will be decided. Rubber & Specialties will return as a race sponsor. And, The Krewe De Ya Ya’s will be on hand making sure everyone has a great time while raising funds for Breast Cancer Research. {nl}The Blizzard Series finale usually provides the largest field of cars of the season, as drivers use this event as a final tune up for the Snowball Derby. 5 Flags Bikefest

  {nl}This Saturday, 5 Flags Speedway is proud to host the 3rd Annual 5 Flags Bikefest. This year, the Speedway has teamed up with the Hadji Shrine , who are putting on “The Ride for the Shrine.” This organized ride will begin at the Hadji Shrine Temple on 9 Mile Road, and end up at 5 Flags Speedway approximately 2 hours later, where there will be Motorcycle Racing and a Live Concert, featuring Louisiana based “Dash Rip Rock”.  {nl}The Lloyd’s Glass Double Points Night got off to a familiar start as DJ Vanderley set fast time in the Pro Late Model ranks, ahead of two Camping World Truck Racers, Mike Garvey and Johanna Long.{nl} {nl}The racing program started with Bomber Heat action with Michael Nelson and Curtis Faircloth finding Victory Lane. Loss of an Icon

Longtime 5 Flags Speedway track electrician Sport Mercer has passed away. Sport’s involvement with 5 Flags goes back to the early days when he was an important member of the Tom Dawson team which helped build 5 Flags and the Snowball Derby into what it is today. Sport’s son Eddie is a past Snowball Derby Champion and son Stevie has won many events here as well. The entire racing community will miss Sport’s ever smiling face, and the 5 Flags Family wishes to extend it’s condolences to his wife Carol, daughters Wanda and Tina, and sons Eddie and Stevie. […]
