Night of Champions Turns into Night of Sweeps: Pollard Collects Pair of Wins, Roderick Pair of Titles

By Chuck Corder

“Redneck Jesus” continues to reign supreme at Five Flags Speedway.

Bubba Pollard goes by many monikers and nicknames. One superlative stands above the rest: winner.

It’s certainly not hyperbole to dub the 31-year-old driver short-track racing’s current king for how many times his bearded-face is smiling in numerous Victory Lanes across North America.

As he has done so often at Five Flags Speedway, it was once again Pensacola’s turn to be swept up in Pollard’s power and precision during the famed half-mile asphalt oval’s Night […]

Boyett Hopes to Cap Banner Rookie Season with Pro Trucks Title on Night of Champions

By Chuck Corder

Logan Boyett hasn’t experienced much regret in this magical season of racing.

The Pensacola driver’s decision this year to dial back his late model program and turn his focus squarely on his first year competing in the WCIparts.com Pro Trucks series has been fruitful.

Thanks to four wins in the division’s eight features this season, Boyett leads Texan Chris Comalander by 26 points heading into Saturday’s Night of Champions at Five Flags Speedway and is in ideal position to collect his first career track title at […]

Roderick chases down Choquette to win Pro Lates; Boyett top Pro Trucker again, and Balkum back as Pure Stock winner

Roderick Train Keeps Rollin’, Has Won Seven Straight PLM 100 Lappers at 5 Flags

By Chuck Corder

The superlatives for Casey Roderick are countless.

Every bouquet the short track world tosses at the Georgia late model hotshoe is blooming and well-deserving.

Roderick’s entire arsenal was on display Friday night at Five Flags Speedway for the third of four Allen Turner Pro Late Model 100 races.

The 25 year old showed the patience and discipline of the veteran wheelman he is after trailing to Jeff Choquette for most of the race.

Roderick finally got by Choquette on Lap 84, and didn’t look back in capturing his seventh […]

Will Blount+ Patino = Win in Friday’s “Road to the Snowflake” Pro Late Models?

Joining Forces with Blount, Young Patino Hones in on First Allen Turner Pro Late Model 100 Victory
By Chuck Corder
Fate has a funny way of intervening during trying times.
At 6-foot-1, Perry Patino is a strapping, young lad — all 19 years of him — filled with a white-hot passion for late model racing, but with grassroots pockets not as deep as some of his competitors.
Patino and his father, Richard Patino, were planning on putting racing in the rearview and letting the Montgomery, Ala., native focus on his sophomore year at the University of Alabama and his pursuit of a degree in […]

Babb Bangs Way to Second Demo Derby Victory; Ard Pulls Off Stunner in Sportsmen Spectacular

By Chuck Corder

Justin Babb never stopped inflicting damage Friday night at Five Flags Speedway.

Luckily for the Pensacola resident, that’s the perfect recipe to be victorious in a Demolition Derby.

In his colorful Lincoln that had a dread-locked Rastafarian piñata on its roof, Babb drove with reckless abandonment and won his second Demolition Derby in three years.

He was the last car standing in a crowded field of 14 cars. Babb finished off Bobby Suarez in the “Tooth Ambulance” PT Cruiser to collect the $1,500 winner’s purse.

“I love doing […]
