SD_-_Flashback_78_Derby.jpg

The year was 1978 when a young 23 year old driver out of Maylene, Alabama came to Pensacola to conquer the Snowball Derby.  His name was Dave Mader, III. And on that night, he sat on top of the racing world, winning the 11th Annual Snowball Derby.

As usual, becoming a Derby Champion launched Mader's racing Career. He went on to compete in 10 NASCAR Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup Series) races between 1988 and 1992. He also raced in 22 Busch Series Races (now Nationwide Series) between 1986 and 1992. While there, he had 9 Top 10 Finishes.

In 2006 at the age of 51, Dave Mader, III became the Blizzard Series Champion at Five Flags Speedway.

The picture above shows the official program of the 1978 Snowball Derby with Ronnie Sanders on the cover. It also shows Dave Mader in Victory Lane.
