Nov 09, 2009 - The Next Generation
Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Matt Kenseth, has entered to race in the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby. Like many young drivers, Ross looks to one day be where is father has ended up. But in December, Kenseth has an opportunity to do something that Matt fell just short of. Winning the Snowball Derby. In 1996, Ross got his first win at the age of 3 at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR). Ross raced against a very competitive Big Wheel class and took the win. Then in 1999, Ross raced with his mom, Lisa, in the Kid Kart Class at Shawno, WI. Ross went on to take 1st in points. In 2001, Ross raced in the Box Stock Class in Shawno, WI. Ross again took 1st in points. Ross was born a Champion. And in 2009 has proven to be the year if your last name is Kenseth. After his fathers Daytona 500 win in February, Ross began to garner the attention of the racing world. In a matter of a few months, Ross Kenseth has captured the Big 8 Series Championship and Wisconsin State Championship. To go along with that, he has wins at Madison International, The Big O, Kaukauna, Rockford and Norway Speedway. So what does Matt have to say about this? He believes his son shows more promise than he did at the same age. "The thing with Ross is he's such a quick learner," Kenseth said. "I watch him do, just little, subtle things that maybe people wouldn't even notice, that took me years to learn that he learns in three weeks. So it's fun for me to watch him learn. In December, Ross will learn the ropes of Five Flags Speedway, and attempt the biggest race of them all, the Snowball Derby.
