Rivalry Put on Side Burner for Kids
{nl}When it comes to doing something good for kids, even rivals can come together, as was the case on Tuesday, June15th at 5 Flags Speedway. Points leader D.J. Vanderley and defending PLM Champion Ronnie Smith helped entertain and educate some 175 kids from area Day Care Centers. The annual field trip was conducted in sweltering heat, but that didn’t stop the youngsters from staring silently and wide eyed as D.J.’s tire specialist (and Mom) Linda explained the basics of Racing and Race Cars to the different groups, while sister Dana and fellow competitor Ronnie gave the kids rides around the track in the 5 Flags Pace Car and Safety Truck. After snacks provided by the Speedway, the youngsters were treated to a high speed exhibition run by Vanderley, one of the hottest drivers in the south in 2010.
