Racers reload at Swap Meet
Old man winter was the first arrival at the 5th Annual Racer’s Swap Meet, held Saturday at 5 Flags Speedway. Cold weather conditions, including an occasional sleet sighting, did not deter the many racers who seized the opportunity to buy, sell, or swap parts. Equipment on hand varied from complete cars and trailers, body and chassis parts, complete engines and related parts, right down to shop equipment and tools. Monies earned and monies saved, served up a much needed boost to many on hand, as the 2011 racing season fast approaches. Race cars at this year’s swap meet represented nearly every form of motorsports, including both asphalt and dirt tracks, drag racing and even some nostalgia entries. The next event on tap for area racers is the Winternationals at nearby Southern Raceway, to be held on February 19th. The Asphalt season kicks off at South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama with the Rattler weekend on March 4th thru 6th. 5 Flags Speedway’s next scheduled day is the 2011 Season Preview on Saturday, March 12th. This will be an open test day for all divisions, including a visit from area Pro Challenge Racers for a test and tune session. Admission will be $10 into the Pit area, and grandstand admission will be free. There will be a driver’s meeting at 12:00 noon, in the grandstands, where procedure and program changes for 2011 will be discussed.
