Sprints Must See TV as Extreme Series Invades Five Flags; Mods, Motos Add to Open Wheel Mayhem
One thing is definitely clear about this Friday’s racing action at Five Flags Speedway.
Wheels won’t have any woes breathing.
Led by the Xtreme Sprints from Must See Racing, Pensacola’s high banks will be home to open wheels of all varieties when its gates open at 5 p.m. Friday.
Modifieds kick off their 2012 season at Five Flags with a 50 lapper that pays $1,200 to win.
Motorcycles round out the night’s festivities with a feature on the famed, half-mile asphalt oval.
Grandstand admission is as follows: $15 adults, $14 seniors, $12 military/students (ages 12 thru 17), $5 children ages 6 to 11 and free for kids under 6. Pit passes are $25.

Pace resident and reigning track champion Todd Jones leads a deep field of Mods, which will qualify for their feature starting positions at 6 p.m. Friday.
The motos will battle in a pair of heats to determine their starting grid.
And then, at approximately 7:30 Friday night, all eyes will turn to the Xtreme Sprints. A group of about 25 drivers will take their respective shots at the Five Flags track record of 13.86, set two years ago when Brian Gingras of the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association broke the previous mark in a winged sprint.
“We’re bringing a very talented group of racecar drivers down there, Must See President and Founder Jim Hanks said. “Five Flags is a great venue. There’s a demographic down there in Pensacola that seems to like open-wheeled racing.
“Must See is bringing the big boys to town. It’s good for race fans. It’s good for track. It’s good for everybody. It should be exciting.
What could make the night more exciting?
How about the prospect of Five Flags, one of short-track racing’s crown jewels, being broadcasted to more than 140 million homes?
That’s a real possible thanks to a contract Must See has with Fox Sports to air its events tape-delayed.
Hanks is unsure when Friday night’s race will air because Must See’s season typically starts in May. But if you notice 20 or more faces sprinting around the speedway, behind the scenes Friday, those will belong to the Must See folks making sure their telecast runs as smooth as their Xtreme Sprints.
“The trailer looks like outer space when you go inside it, Hanks said.
