Big Money and Great Racing Make Up the Undercard Nights in Pensacola
51 Sports / Snowball Derby PR

More than 100 drivers took the green flag last year in the support divisions at the 45th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. The combined success of those races have helped make the Derby not only one of the biggest events, but one of the best weekends of racing anywhere in the country.

This year, from Thursday December 5 through Saturday December 7, fans will get to see a total five divisions racing in addition to the headlining Super Late Models and Pro Late Models. The local racers in the Bomber, Sportsman, Super Stock, Modified and Pro Truck divisions look forward to Snowball Derby time just as much as the Late Models do come December.

"For everyone it's their Snowball Derby," said Tim Bryant, Five Flags Speedway General Manager. "Our local guys are real supportive of the big race and come out and run on nights that they are not accustomed to running. They pit together and sometimes even outside the track just to be a part of the Snowball Derby. This is their time to shine in front of a big crowd each night."

The racing is phenomenal from entry level Bombers to the mighty-fast Modifieds that circle the track with blazing speed that is rivaled only by the Late Modes.

The Thursday, December 5 racing card will consists of the Sportsman and Bomber divisions. The Bombers will go 30 laps and the Sportsman will go 50 laps. Michael Nelson is the defending winner after besting a field of 24 Bombers in 2012. Steve Buttrick is looking for a fourth consecutive win in the Sportsman division. The Bombers will race for $1,000 as the Sportsmen get to fight for $1,750.

On Friday, December 6 the evening will be jam-packed with action from the Super Stocks and Modifieds as each class runs for $2,500 in their 50-lap events. Billy Melvin is the defending winner in the Modified class, which often features a few Late Model drivers strapping into the only open-wheeled division competing during Snowball Derby weekend. In the Super Stock class, Gary Sutton is the defending Snowball Derby Super Stock race winner.

On Saturday night, December 7, a new division joins the Snowball Derby racing card for the first time. The Pro Trucks will go 50 laps us the undercard to the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100. The new division will pay $2,000 to the winner.

Entry forms for the 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by JEGS and the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 are currently available on the official website of the Snowball Derby, www.snowballderby.com.

The 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by JEGS weekend kicks off on Wednesday, December 4 with the Cat Country / WEAR TV 3 Green Flag Party at Five Flags Speedway. On-track action begins Thursday, December 5 with practice for the Snowball Derby Super Late Models and the Snowflake 100 Pro Late Models. Bombers and Sportsman will then rule the Pensacola Road after that.

Friday, December 6th is WXBM 103.7 Pole Night for the Snowball Derby cars as drivers try to lock themselves into Sunday's starting field. More practice for all Late Model cars before handing the stage over to the Modifieds and Super Stocks.

Saturday holds qualifying and the main event for the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 as well as the first-ever appearance of the Pro Truck division during Snowball Derby weekend.

It all leads up to the most prestigious asphalt short track race in the country, the 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by JEGS on Sunday, December 8. The Snowball Derby will pay $22,500 to the winner, plus additional available bonuses.
