DJ Shaw Competing in Prestigious Snowball Derby This Weekend

1450199_616500101742636_1452736518_nCenter Conway, NH – DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM team will be racing in the Sunshine State of Florida this weekend in one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country, the Snowball Derby. The Snowball Derby is a 300-lap race held annually at the half-mile Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. The race has been contested every year since 1968 and is always run on the first weekend in December. Some of the best short track drivers travel to this event each year, with 65 entries filed for this year’s event. Past winners include Darrell Waltrip, Kyle Busch and last year’s winner Erik Jones. Shaw will be running in both the Snowball Derby on Sunday and the Pro Late Model Snowflake 100 lap event on Saturday night.

“It’s huge for us, it’s possibly a one-time thing and we want to make sure we are prepared the best we know and hope for the best, Shaw said earlier this week in an interview on Mainely Motorsports, “We’ve talked to a few guys from up here like Johnny Clark so we kind of know what to expect with tech inspection and the race.

While this is Shaw’s first attempt at the Snowball Derby, he is no stranger to being competitive in big events. A veteran of both the Pro All Stars Series and the K&N Pro Series, he has won many of the biggest races in the Northeast and finished in a solid third place against similar competition last year at the All American 400 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Shaw is using that race as his baseline for this weekend.

“The biggest thing I lean on is Nashville and a lot of those guys were there and we ran well against Busch, Pollard and Kenseth, Shaw said of comparing the two races, “It helps build confidence knowing we were good there, we just want to qualify first and then worry about winning the race.

This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of many great partners of the Precision JLM team. Subway of New Hampshire and Vermont, Mulkern Excavating, Waldos, Power Train Tecnhology, JBJ Machine, Hedman Headers, Jakes Rod Shop, Washington Towing and Recovery, Pave-Tek and G.E. Brown General Contractor have all stepped up to help Shaw this season. Qualifying for the Snowball Derby and the Snowflake 100 feature event will be held on Saturday, December 7th with the 300 lap Snowball Derby on Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 PM. Fans can find updates on Speed51.com all weekend and through the Precision JLM Facebook page.
