$551 Bounty in Snowball Derby for Midwest & Northeast Racers

Speed51Bonus

Speed51.com Puts Up Cash Bonus for Racers Making the Long Haul

CONCORD, NC - Short track racers from throughout North America will battle in the 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by JEGS this December.  Success in the 300-lap Super Late Model event at Pensacola, Florida's Five Flags Speedway separates the best racers from the ones that are merely good.  Racers can be successful in their local, regional or touring series, but only the Snowball Derby has the prestige to bring the top racers from all corners of the map to settle who truly is the best.

While only one driver can claim the Tom Dawson Trophy as the Snowball Derby winner, Speed51.com, the official live media coverage partner of the Snowball Derby, is helping recognize two drivers who make the long trip to Pensacola.  51 has put up two $551 bounties for the December 8 running of the Snowball Derby presented by JEGS; one for the highest-finishing Midwest-based team and the other for the top Northeastern-based team.

"There's a lot of regional pride on the line whenever the top short track racers go head-to-head like in the Snowball Derby," said Speed51.com Executive Editor and NASCAR on FOX Sports broadcaster Bob Dillner.  "We at 51 wanted to recognize the drivers who best represent their home regions in the most prestigious event there is.  The Northeast and Midwest have probably the two most passionate short track fan bases in the country and there will be a lot of eyes from both regions fixed on the racing action in Pensacola either in person or on the Speed51.com Snowball Derby coverage.  It's going to be fun to see which driver can best represent for his or her region in this year's Snowball Derby."

"It sure is nice that we can honor the top finishing drivers in each region thanks to Speed51.com," said Five Flags Speedway General Manger Tim Bryant. "51 has added so much exposure to this race and drivers from all over the country over the years and it's great that they're continuing to support the racers with these bonuses.  There's already a lot on the line in this race and bonuses like these from Speed51.com only add to the excitement around the Snowball Derby."

The $551 bonus for the highest-finishing Midwest racer will be open to cars that originate from race shops in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.  The Northeast bonus is for the highest-finishing driver with a team based in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania or Rhode Island.

"The entry list already is chock full of touring series champions from all over the map," said Speed51.com Executive Director Matt Kentfield.  "But maybe, with these bonuses up for grabs, a few more drivers will try to test their meddle in the Snowball Derby.  No major event like the Snowball Derby is inexpensive to run, so maybe bonuses like this will entice a few more drivers to see how they stack up against North America's best."

Speed51.com is also searching for partners to add to this bounty to help make it more lucrative to teams to make the long haul to the Panhandle of Florida to challenge for the biggest trophy of the season.

“It’s our goal to get this bounty for both regions in excess of $1,000, added Dillner.  “Bounties have been used in racing for years… it’s kinda of old school.  We know it takes a lot to make the trek down south, but together with the folks from Five Flags Speedway, we hope to help that and add a little more excitement to this legendary race.
