Kyle Bryant Is Chasing the Dream in Southern Super Series

Racing Against the "Best of the Best" in His Back Yard is Shaping the Young Driver

Racing is in Kyle Bryant's blood.  Short track racing has been a passion of his family for decades in the Deep South.  His family has raced, worked on cars, sold parts or promoted tracks in the region for years.

Now it's the 21-year-old Navarre, Florida driver to make a name for himself on the racing scene to continue the family legacy behind the wheel of his No. 79 Super Late Model.  When not working at Bryant Racing Equipment in Navarre during the week, Bryant can be found on the asphalt chasing the dreams of winning in the deep south in the Southern Super Series Presented by Sunoco.  Bryant heads to the second doubleheader weekend on the Gulf Coast at Five Flags Speedway (FL) and Mobile International Speedway (AL) looking to break into the top-10 in series points.

"The Southern Super Series to me is like running the World of Outlaws Series," said Bryant.  "There are so many talented drivers you have to beat when you race.  From Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill, the list just goes on.  That makes finishing well mean so much more when you are racing against the best of the best."

Already in 2014 Bryant has posted finishes of seventh at the Rattler 250 and 10th at the most recent Southern Super Series stop at Mobile .

"We have goals when we go to the track," said Kyle Bryant.  "We want to be there and be competitive. Our goals might be smaller than the bigger teams, but we are realistic about it.  We don't have a big fancy rig or more than one car.  That's the way we keep doing it is staying within our budget."

While every driver goes to the track seeking victory, Bryant has other things in mind.  Keeping the car together for the next race, running well and finishing are paramount for him and his low-buck operation.

"Dad (Randy Bryant) myself and another guy is about all we have." added Bryant.   "Racing close to home is key to why we switched to Super Late Models.  We are still a race-to-race operation as we have to take care of our stuff to run the next night."

The biggest dream for Kyle is the Snowball Derby.  He wants to walk across the stage on a December Sunday afternoon in Pensacola, wave to the crowd at take the green at the most prestigious short track asphalt race in the country at his home track of Five Flags.

"If I could do that and wreck on the first lap I'd still be smiling," added Kyle.  "I would want to win the Derby more than the Daytona 500.  Getting in the race is the hardest part.  We came up short last year after only running two Super Late Model races.  Hopefully our Southern Super Series experience can get us there."

If Bryant can finish in the top 10 in points a possible provisional could aid his way into the historic event.  Bryant enters the Gulf Coast Doubleheader weekend 12th in points, 19 markers outside the top 10.

The Southern Super Series gets back underway with the Rubber & Specialties 125 at Five Flags Speedway (FL) on Friday May 23rd.  That race, along with the Miller Lite 125 at Mobile International Speedway (AL) on Saturday May 24th, make up part of the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series.  For ticket information and more, visit www.5flagsspeedway.com and www.mobilespeedway.net.
