Bowen Confident as SSS Heads to Five Flags Speedway

Georgia Driver Leads Standings Again

For the third time in 2014, the stars of the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco will take to the half-mile Five Flags Speedway (FL) to begin the next to last gulf coast weekend of the year this Friday night.

For what seems like the first time this year, the driver they will all be gunning for is not four-time series winner Bubba Pollard, but a worthy adversary and current SSS points leader and most recent winner, Anderson Bowen.

Although elated after winning in front of his hometown crowd at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA), Bowen would like nothing more than to continue his hot streak in the gulf region, so much so, that the team rearranged their entire racing schedule so the 17-year-old can make a run at the title.

“We moved our schedule around between ARCA and K&N to be able to do this series full-time now. I’m super glad we did. I’m looking forward to this. said Bowen. “We’re racing against the best of the best in the entire country in the Southern Super Series and right now we’re on top.

The Suwanee, Georgia driver has failed to finish inside the top-five just once in 2014, and heads in to Friday with strong finishes of third and fifth in two previous races at Five Flags Speedway this season.

The Southern Super Series has already produced some epic battles in 2014, most recently between Bowen and 2013 series champion Daniel Hemric at Gresham Motorsports Park.

“That was the hardest and the most fun I’ve honestly ever had in a racecar, said Bowen. “We were racing with one of the best in Super Late Models, it was just phenomenal.

Prior to Gresham, fans are still talking about the battle that Bubba Pollard and Augie Grill waged for the win the last time the series visited Florida’s panhandle back in May. The pair went door-to-door for more than a dozen laps, swapping the lead and a little paint along the way. Both Grill and Pollard left Pensacola that night exclaiming that was what racing was all about.

Bowen ran third that night and while he has been on the outside looking in up until now, he feels that this latest effort by his No. 29 team has him poised to be on top again this weekend.

“Having the points lead and now a win under our belt, it’s definitely a confidence booster going in to Pensacola. If we take the same notes that we used last time I feel like we’ll be in pretty good shape.

Racing this Friday at Five Flags Speedway is set to roll off at 8:00pm with the Papa John’s 125 for the Southern Super Series scheduled to get the green flag following intermission and a fireworks display.
