Handicapping the Field: Odds for the 49th Annual Snowball Derby

slm-snowball-derby-aerial-of-field-2015-537x350If you had to put money on the drivers competing in the 49th annual Snowball Derby, what type of odds would you get?  Like any sporting event that sees action in Las Vegas, the heavy hitters would not provide as much “bang for your buck,â€? while those with an outside chance would provide a big payday for those feeling more risky.

We at Speed51.com have taken the projected entry list for the Snowball Derby and have broken it down as to who we think has the best shot to come out on top of the tough competition on Sunday, December 4.

Of course, there is no disrespect to any drivers mentioned in this list and odds are based solely off of past performances in the Snowball Derby and in Super Late Model racing.  These odds are for entertainment purposes only.

Place your bets now and tune into the Speed51 TV live pay-per-view broadcast to see who comes out on top. Purchase your live pay-per-view online video ticket today by clicking here.

The Favorites (5 to 1) – Ty Majeski, Bubba Pollard, Christopher Bell

Last year’s polesitter, last year’s initial winner before tech and one of Super Late Model racing’s biggest stars make up this list of favorites.  In our early polling of staff members and those in the industry, these are the three drivers that are being talked about the most.

The Contenders (10 to 1) – William Byron, Derek Thorn, Preston Peltier, Todd Gilliland, Dalton Sergeant, Casey Roderick, John Hunter Nemechek, Grant Enfinger, Jeff Choquette, Raphael Lessard

They may not be favorites, but they are certainly expected to be battling for the Tom Dawson trophy on Sunday.  This list is full of champions, a former Snowball Derby winner and three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winners.

Good Money (12 to 1) – Christian Eckes, Donnie Wilson, Kaz Grala, Corey LaJoie, Zane Smith, Casey Smith, Bret Holmes, Augie Grill, Harrison Burton, Noah Gragson, Stephen Nasse

We won’t argue with you if you try to tell us these drivers should be higher up on the list, but a deep field forced some very good drivers into this category.  Last year’s runner up, the 2015 Southern Super Series champion and a former winner are all available at these odds.

In the Ball Park (15 to 1) – Steve Dorer, Cassius Clark, Brandon McReynolds, Kyle Grissom, Dan Fredrickson, Dalton Armstrong, Korbin Forister, Brandon Oakley, Tyler Antrum, Garrett Jones, Derek Kraus, Cole Anderson

We’re certainly not ruling out a top-five run for any of the drivers listed above, but it would be an upset if any of them took home Tom Dawson Trophy.

Under the Right Conditions (20 to 1) – David Rogers, Logan Boyett, Chris Davidson, Jacob Gomes, Spencer Davis, Trevor Noles, Spencer Gallagher, Chandler Smith, Caleb Adrian, Dakoda Armstrong, Clay Rogers, Scotty Ellis, Kenzie Ruston, Boris Jurkovic, Chad Finley

Taking a look at this list of drivers you may be shocked at the 20-1 odds, but it continues to show you just how deep this field is.  You could make a case for any of these drivers.

Would Pay Off Well (25 to 1) – Derek Scott, Jr., Ryan Luza, Kason Plott, Cole Rouse, Kyle Bryant, Bobby Knox Jr., Kyle Plott

We don’t expect this group of drivers to contend for the win, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a few of them transfer to the big show on Sunday.

Big Money Bets (37 to 1) – Tim Martin, Connor Okrzesik, Alex Rosenberry, Jerry Artuso, Michael Atwell, John Coffman,  Jeffrey Firestine, Cole Moore, Logan Bearden, Roger Reuse

If you’re looking for a chance to strike it rich, this would be the group of drivers to keep an eye on. Anything is possible, but if any of these drivers end up in Victory Lane it would be the biggest upset in Snowball Derby history.
